The Playwrights

  • Maria Arreola (Playwright of Floating Girls Go To The Moon she/her) - is an emerging Chicana playwright/podcaster. Since 2021, she has had her work developed at various Chicago theaters including Pocket Theatre VR, Danztheatre, PlayGround-Chicago and Definition Theatre. Formerly, Maria was the 2022-2023 Artistic Fellow at Berkeley Rep, a 24-Hour Plays Nationals alum, and a Sewanee Writers’ Conference Scholar. 

  • Tamar Brooks (Playwright of Kumquats on the QT she/her) is a Wisconsin original who received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay in 2013, and joined the Chicago creative scene shortly thereafter as actor, playwright, and poet. She is a contributing writer on The Feminine Stoic, and her plays and poems have been featured in a variety of festivals, online platforms, and gallery exhibits, including a 5-year tenure at UWWFest.   • Marjorie Muller (Playwright of ADULT CHILDREN OF MANDATED MOTHERS ANONYMOUS (ACOMMA), she/her) writes body plays and when she’s not writing body plays, she writes romance novels, which are kind of like body plays but sexier. Based in Chicago, her work has appeared at The Road Theatre, The Tank, Urbanite Theatre, and the Valdez Theatre Conference. Her plays littlespace, or the daddy play, The Sporting Life, and HypergaMater have all been O’Neill semifinalists, and in 2024 she received an Honorable Mention for the Relentless Award. The Sporting Life premiered at the Factory Theater this fall and runs through 11/22. She also hosts The Romance Room, a podcast about romance craft and culture.

  • Silma Sierra Berrada (Playwright of Ghost Trap, she/her) is an African American and Moroccan playwright, poet, and visual artist. Her work explores the collision of personal and political, where memory, grief, and survival blur into ritual. Moving through ancestral haunting, spiritual collapse, and the ache of inheritance, she asks what softness can endure in systems demanding endurance. She sculpts plays toward rhythm, texture, and emotional space—tender yet sharp, dwelling in grey. Her work has been developed at McCarter Theatre (Paula Vogel Bake-Off) and honored with the Crossroads Genesis Prize. She holds an A.B. from Princeton and pursues her M.F.A. at Columbia.

  • Perse Grammer (Playwright of burn my body before they find it, they/them) is a multidisciplinary writer and theatre artist based in Chicago. Their writing primarily centers around the body, inspired by their experiences with disability and gender nonconformity. They hold a BFA in Playwriting from DePaul University, where they were awarded the Zach Helm Endowed Playwriting Scholarship in 2024 for “working to illuminate narratives of the exploited, oppressed, and marginalized”. In addition to shining light on the unseen, their plays aim to present the surreal as the real—meaning they sometimes contain semi-invisible beetles or freeze-dried corpses.

  • mantra (Playwright of the principal’s committee., she/any) is a playwright, director, and comedian originally from Bangalore, India. Her work was recently seen at 24HourPlays (Off-Broadway), Writers Theatre, Token Theatre, The Second City, The Road Theatre, Theo Ubique, Shattered Globe and Avalanche Theatre. Her plays have received recognition from the 2024 Agnes Nixon Playwriting award (winner), Fulbright Creative Writing scholarship (alternate finalist), Ojai Playwrights Conference (semifinalist), Inkslinger Playwriting Competition (semifinalist), SheNYC festival (finalist) and Boise Contemporary Theatre’s Playwriting festival (finalist). She was a Victor Wong Fellow at the Second City, and an Under Construction Playwright at The Road Theatre. You can see her performing in sketch comedy group Women Off-Colour at A Red Orchid Theatre in November!

The Directors

  • Osiris Gabriel Mundo (Director of Floating Girls Go To The Moon, ki/kin) is a Disabled Mexican Yoreme (Indigenous) Artist. Osiris is frequently known as “Pinky” and  uses Ki/Kin pronouns. Ki is a professional actor, an experienced writer/playwright, a classically trained singer, teaching artist, and emerging Director. You may have seen kin in Lizard y El Sol (Goodman Theatre), Skyflint pt 1 (Haven Theatre), Rebirth of Osiris (Haven Theatre), SPARK! Artist in Residence (Filament Theatre) or during “Hora de Cuentinflas”; an hour of Mexican Songs and Spanish Storytime (NOITP Grant Recipient). This summer, Osiris co-wrote and performed the music for “El Barzon” (Free Street Theatre) and teaches with Changosnakedog.  Ki creates theatre that illuminates the obscured and inspires innovation; often at the intersections of identity (race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and Disability). Ki is driven by the need to express in a way that everyone can understand, regardless of age and capacity. Inspired & influenced by Chespirito, Osiris’ work is comical, candid, and always through a compassionate lens.  When we create things so that everyone can understand, the world benefits.   • Leanna Gianoutsos Oliveira (Director of Kumquats on the QT, she/her) is a director, theatre educator and producer originally from South Florida. She earned her Bachelor’s in Theatre from the University of Central Florida and her Master's in Directing from Roosevelt University. She is a proud member of the ALC at Artemisia and an associate producer at PlayGround Chicago. Leanna is so excited and grateful for the opportunity to direct in the WeWomen Festival and to be part of Artemisia. Some of her favorite directing credits include: The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould (Haven), She Kills Monsters (YA Edition), Antigone (BMSOA), Medea (BBHS), Peter & the Starcatcher (BMSOA).

  • Emma Durbin (Director of ADULT CHILDREN OF MANDATED MOTHERS ANONYMOUS (ACOMMA), they/them) is a Chicago-based playwright, producer, and multidisciplinary theatre artist whose work centers queerness, love, and community. Emma most recently produced the 2025 Black Swan Lab at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. They are a co-founding producer for new play development initiatives including Freshly Brewed at The Understudy Coffee and Books, New Play Festival at Subtext Studio TC, and Whale Watch Fest, and they are a member of the Pocket Producing Ensemble.   • Sydney Charles (Director of Ghost Trap, she/her) is grateful to return to Artemisia Theatre. She is a Chicago-based actor, director, voice talent, writer, and cultural strategist. As a director, she has led work with Goodman Theatre, Definition Theatre, DCASE (Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events), Jackalope Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, OTV, and Make-Believe Association (Hamlet). Her performance and voice work have been featured with Make-Believe Association, Steppenwolf Theatre, and others across Chicago’s creative landscape.   • Grey Sindaco (Director of burn my body before they find it, they/them) is thrilled to make their debut with Artemisia! A Miami native with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Long Island University, Grey has brought their creative spark to stages across South Florida, New York, and now Chicago. Recent directing credits include 12 Angry Jurors with BTG and a one-act for Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series last summer. Grey is passionate about bold, collaborative storytelling and building spaces where every voice belongs.   • Alondra Rios (Director of the principal’s committee, she/her) is a Puerto Rican director, actor, and playwright currently based in Chicago. She studied at Northwestern University with a B.A. in Theatre and a certificate in Music Theatre and Playwriting. She is passionate about developing new work. She recently directed Love in the Time Of___ for Theo Ubique Winter Fest, and she also participated in the Red Orchid Incubator, co-developing the sketch show Women Off-Colour. Recent acting credits include: American Music Theatre Project: Desaparecidas (Northwestern University) and Side by Side by Sondheim (Oil Lamp Theatre). She is also a devoted corgi mom!

Prodigy: A Modern Family Portrait

  • Arya Halbleib (she/her) is a queer Chicago-based actor and is thrilled to be making her debut with Artemisia Theatre. She recently graduated from UIC with a BFA in Acting, during which time she also studied at Eòlia ESAD in Barcelona as part of their study abroad program. Recent theatre credits include U/S Winnifred in Witch and two staged readings, Company’s Coming and Problem Play (The Artistic Home) and Mariana in Measure for Measure (Forest Park Theatre). Other credits include Sade in Marat/Sade and Ani in Gloria (UIC). You can catch her understudying in Citadel Theatre’s I and You in 2025. It is her lifelong dream to have a pet cow one day. 

  • Jennifer Ledesma is a Mexican-American actor, singer, dancer, and musician currently based in Chicago. Some of her favorite theatre credits include American Mariachi (TheatreSquared), Shrek (Drury Lane), Nunsense (Little Theatre On The Square), Spongebob the Musical and Grand Hotel (Kokandy Productions), the Chicago premieres of Bright Star (Boho Theatre) and If/Then (Brown Paper Box Company), West Side Story (Morris Performing Arts Center), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Music Theatre Works) and Hello Again (Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre).   • Andi Muriel (she/they) is a Chicago-based artist, actor, and arts educator who is absolutely thrilled to be working with Artemisia for their very first time. Andi is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Theatre and Music, where they received their BFA in acting. Chicago credits include: Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest at Strawdog Theatre Company; Cymbeline with Midsommer Flight; and Jeff award winning Motherhouse, at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, where she is a proud ensemble member.

  • Ellen Campbell (she/her) is an actor, teaching artist, and arts administrator based in Chicago. She is thrilled to be working with Artemisia for the first time! Chicago credits include HOWARDS END (Remy Bumppo) and THE VENETIANS (Oak Park Festival Theatre & Kane Repertory Theatre virtual co-production). Regional credits include SHAKESPEARIENCE TOUR: RICHARD III and JULIUS CAESAR (Idaho Shakespeare Festival). She earned her BA in Theatre at The College of Idaho, and her MFA in Acting at Northern Illinois University. Ellen is the Audience Services Coordinator at Chicago Humanities.

  • Ophelia, a proud Chicago native, is thrilled to be making her debut at
    Artemisia Theatre! An Ojibwe and Mexican woman, she trained at Circle
    In The Square School in New York and is also pursuing an astrophysics
    career when not on stage. Previously seen in Network and Three Sisters
    (Invictus Theater), Cymbeline (Stone Soup Shakespeare), Moby Dick: The
    Musical (Cuckoo's Theater Project) and Scary Stories To Save Your Life
    (About Face Youth Theater), among others. Love to Mom, who never got
    mad at her relentlessly singing showtunes from age 8 on. Meg,
    Samantha, and Emma, her Pillars of strength. Miigwech to Creator, and
    her little dog Spencer, who also tolerates relentless showtunes and is
    the greatest companion a girl can ask for.

  • AC is excited to work with Artemisia! They recently appeared in The F*ggots and Their Fr*ends between R*volutions, for which they were a member of the devising ensemble, and as Bracknell understudy in The Importance of Being Earnest with Strawdog Theatre Company. The Gizzard of Brownsville

  • Kamyia Green (she/her) is an actress, currently in her junior year studying for her BA degree in Theatre and Performance at UIC. The Gizzard of Brownsville marks her first professional staged reading. Her other acting credits include Blues for an Alabama Sky (u/s), Not About Nightingales (u/s), and the university staged reading of Remember Them. She is also a playwright, whose first play titled Us, Again premiered at the UIC Play Festival in March of 2024. Kamyia’s goal as an actress is to inspire others through her work and have others feel seen and understood by the characters she portrays. She wants to continue telling unique, complex, and important stories through theater and wants to represent black women in a fresh way that uplifts and inspires.

  • Margo Harper, is a native of Chicago. 

    She is a director, actress, playwright, drama instructor, screenwriter, vocalist, song writer, performance poet and  puppeteer.  She is the Co-Founder of Harper and Harper Creative Productions which will launch the incredible production,in November 2024, “Margo taught drama for Carlow University Allegheny Community College, Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Shelia (Sheleeah)-Marie Robinson is an actor, writer, and instructor. She is the Artistic Director of The Acting Workshop Chicago / Hardworktellingstories. She has appeared in many Chicago productions, including Sonny's Blues, King Lear, Flyin' West, #Who's Next the Musical, and The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World. In addition to working with such a wonderful group of women, she is thrilled to join Artemisa Theatre in exploring this fun and fascinating play!

  • Ruby Gibson (she/her) is an actor, playwright, and teaching artist who loves to tell stories full of music and magic. A superfan of new work from both sides of the table, she has been thrilled to develop new plays as an actor (The Best Damn Thing, The Understudy; Women Who Discovered How to Measure the Universe, Raven Theatre; Abandon All Hope, Theo Ubique) and playwright (Max Loves the Moon, The 24 Hour Plays Nationals; The Little Prince, Improv Playhouse). Theatrical interests include shadow puppets, pillow forts, witchy rituals, pop punk musicals, and any story that takes teen girls seriously.

  • Juliet Kang Huneke (she/they) is an actor, playwright, and teaching artist who is passionate about theatre that is larger than life. Chicago acting credits include: ON A GREY THREAD (Sandbox Theatre Collective); ANTIGONICK, JOAN AND THE FIRE, and THE UGLY ONE (Trap Door Theatre); FESTIVAL OF UNFINISHED WORK (Bramble Theatre Company); CYMBELINE (Midsommer Flight); THE LITTLE PRINCE (Improv Playhouse TYA); and WHEN THE SUN MELTS AWAY (Token Theatre).   • Dan Jackson received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies from Kent State University. He has received training at the Annoyance, Theatre Momentum, pH Comedy Theater, and CIC Theater. He is a cast member of Haunted: Improvised Ghost Hunters and Take Two: The Improvised Movie. His written work has been performed through American Theater Company (Proximity), City Lit Theater (Of Mice and Minotaurs; The Case of Pete's Civic Responsibility), the Arc Theatre Company (Dumped Among the Reeds), and on the Whiskey Radio Hour (Ricky the Termite). His short play Proximity has also been performed in Hollywood and Melbourne. His iambic pentameter horror play, The Curse on Mordrake House, was produced as part of the 2016 Chicago Fringe Festival to sold-out houses.  

  • Pricilla Torres is excited to be working with Artemisia. Her Chicago credits include Short Shakespeare! Romeo & Juliet (Chicago Shakespeare), Little Women and The Jigsaw Bride (First Folio Theatre), The New Word (Misalliance Repertory Theatre) and Romeo & Juliet (Shakespeare Project of Chicago). Regional credits: Angel Street, Cry It Out, and Spike Heels (The Sharon Studio Theatre) and Undiscovered Country, Henry VIII (Oklahoma Shakespeare). She received her B.F.A. in Acting from UW-Stevens Point and is proudly repped by DDO Chicago.

  • Delaney is jazzed to make her Artemisia debut! She has appeared with The Edge, Stage 773, Krannert Center, Syracuse Stage, Mirrorbox Theatre, and Playwright's Theatre of NY, onscreen in Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, and in those fun quarantine zoom shows we all did. She is also a Young Entertainer's Award and National Hanford Monologue Slam Finalist. Give yourself the love you give others, and go create some art!

  • Born and raised in Chicago, Jill has always had a love for theater and began acting at the tender age of eight in a children’s theater troupe. She most recently appeared in Accidental Election of an Anarchist at The Athenaeum; other recent highlights of her work include starring as Stella in Cloudburst, Enid in Enid’s Fly Trap, appearing as the Boss in the film, Just Add Water and directing Perfect Arrangement at Artserve in Fort Lauderdale. When Jill isn’t on the stage she enjoys biking, hiking, kayaking and traveling with her wife Sabrina and spoiling her three rescue pups. Jill is thrilled to make her Artemisia debut in such an important play given the current state of our climate and the unfortunate lack of political will to address it.

  • Gabriela Molina (she/her/hers) is originally from Panama City, Panama and currently resides in Chicago. She received her BA in Acting with a minor in Live and Performing Arts Management from Columbia College Chicago this last spring. Some of her work within her college years have been American Origami/#HereToo with Tectonic Theatre Project (2021), Purgatorio (2022), Our Country’s Good (2023), and many participations in original plays. Gabriela is super excited to be apart of this amazing project with even more amazing artists!
